A special Eucharist to celebrate the feast of Don Bosco
-Sir Nelson D’ Souza
31st January holds much significance in every Salesian institution because it’s the feast of the patron and founder St. John Bosco. Every year Don Bosco Matunga observes this feast with much devotion and love for this great saint.
In an unusual situation as the Covid pandemic this year, the toned down celebrations witnessed the streaming of the live Eucharistic celebration on 31st January 2021 morning for the students, parents, staff, alumni and well wishers of the two renowned institutions on the campus-DBHS and DBIS. The mass was celebrated at 9.30 am in the crypt of the shrine of Don Bosco, Matunga. The Rector Fr. Crispino D’Souza was the main celebrant while the Principal Fr. Bernard Fernandes concelebrated at the Eucharist. Attending the Eucharist were present and past staff representatives, alumni and well wishers of DBHS Matunga. Members who were present at the venue and thousands of faithful who viewed online were treated to a festive celebration that included a well animated liturgy and enchanting music by the choir.
Fr. Rector in his homily exhorted one and all to imitate Don Bosco in his faith in God and our Blessed Mother. Fr. Crispino said that it was Don Bosco’s mother that instilled in Johnny Bosco the love for God, our Lady and everything spiritual.
The small gathering of staff, alumni and well wishers gathered at the canteen for snacks and tea while wishing each other on this beautiful occasion of the feast of our beloved saint John Bosco.
