A Day at the ZOO – Field Trip Std I

– Mohini Goshi

“Field trips are an opportunity for the children to enter into the world of mystical power” said Frederick Lenz, as more learning happens outdoor than within the four walls of the classroom. The students of Std.I visited the renovated Jijamata Udyan formerly called Ranichi Bagh on 18th January 2018. Jijamata Udyan is a zoo and garden located at Byculla, in the heart of Mumbai. This trip was organized in keeping with the curriculum.

Once we reached the destination the teachers instructed the students with a few dos and don’ts. As they walked along, the children got a chance to view different animals and birds – elephants, crocodiles, spotted deer, sambar deer, emus, python, penguins, and many more. The teachers kept furnishing the students with information as they moved on.

The trip was enriching and the students managed to complete a very informative worksheet upon their return. This field trip helped broaden their horizon and brought about an awareness towards care of wild life.
