NCC hike to Matheran
-Mr. Rakesh Singh
A one day hike to Matheran was organized by Don Bosco High School, Matunga for its N.C.C. cadets on 18th February 2018. A total number of 37 N.C.C. cadets participated in the hike. They were joined by their NCC masters and the retired NCC master Sir Shukla. On the eve of the hike, the N.C.C cadets were very excited to venture out for this one day trek to Matheran. All the cadets assembled in the school at 5.30 a.m. on the day of the hike. The group started their journey from the school by bus. It took us about 2 hours by bus to reach Thakurwadi village. From here we climbed our way up to Matheran via One Tree and Monkey Point that starts from Thakurwadi village.
Matheran is a hill station situated in Raigad district of Maharashtra. The name Matheran means ‘Forest on Top’ or ‘Woodland overhead’. The most unforgettable things about Matheran are its dense forest and the deep valleys surrounding it. One feels rejuvenated with its cool breeze and beautiful landscape. The N.C.C. cadets reached Matheran via One Tree hill at 11.00 a.m. It was a steady and challenging climb with narrow edges and the valley below. After having lunch at Matheran, we visited sunset point and then began our journey back to Dodhani village on foot. A long walk brought us to the Dodhani village. From here we began our return journey back to school by bus. We arrived safely at 7.00 pm in the school having had an enriching and delightful experience.
