27th BOSCO SPORTS MEET 2018-WE COMPETE TOGETHER

The competitive winning spirit of the energetic students of Don Bosco High School came to the fore at the 27th Bosco Sports Meet on 1st December on the school grounds. The inaugural ceremony commenced with a welcome to the chief guest Mr. Dhananjay Mahadik, former International and Indian field hockey player and the management. They were led by the mascot: the planet Earth accompanied by our farmers, conveying the message that we need to strive to compete with true sportsmanship so that we can meet the growing demands and challenges with great responsibility. The day began by invoking God’s presence for helping us stay blessed all day as we witnessed the ‘Winning Spirit’ reach greater heights.
Thereafter the chief guest Mr. Mahadik, Captain of the Indian Hockey team, recipient of the Chatrapati Shivaji Award for Hockey and also an ex-army man was formally welcomed. Mr. Mahadik then received the salute from the four houses and the other troupes namely RSP, NCC and Scouts at the impressive march past. The groups were judged for their performance by three esteemed panel of judges-Mr. Ram Howale, working as a Sports-in-charge in Gokalibai School & Acharya A.V. Patel Jr. College, Mr. Manoj Verma, a sports national athlete currently pursuing his PhD in Physical Education and Ms.Priyanka Jadhav, national level Judo and wrestling champion.
The School Captains, Vice-Captains and House Captains were the flag bearers who handed over the school flag to the chief guest to be hoisted. This was followed by the Sports torch relay which was carried by Mst. Ayush Hindlekar, who was selected to represent for Soft Tennis at the National level. He has bagged Indian National level tournament trophies in the singles U/14 and U/16 category and silver medal in the Athletic Championship. The torch was then passed on to Mr. Laxman Rao, our parent who is the state level hockey player who has served in the Bangalore Police and is the winner of the second edition of the Premier Hockey League with the Bangalore Lions. The torch was finally received by Mrs. Snovia Andrades, our cheerful, sporting Art teacher in the third lap. The sportsman prayer was recited by Mst. Kris Benson who has captained the Hockey team at the Sub Junior Nationals, Uttar Pradesh. He is our fastest 100 metres runner in the DSO City Athletic Meet and the recipient of the award in the MHA School Hockey League. The Sportsman Oath was taken by Mst. Faizuddin Siddique who has represented the Mumbai Hockey Team for the Sub Junior Nationals Men Championship for two consecutive years 2016-17 &2017-18.
The Chief Guest Mr.Mahadik in his address urged the students to make the best possible use of the amazing infrastructure- the grounds available to them which is a rare sight in a city like Mumbai.
After the speech, it was time for some disciplined performances by our students namely the School Band with their astounding musical display, the Cubs with their standing and sitting exercises, the Scouts with their impressive display of the Human Pyramid and lastly the Zumba-a combination of dance and exercise. These performances captured the attention of the audience. The first part of the meet thus concluded with the chief guest declaring the Sports Festival open.
After the inaugural ceremony, it was time for the athletic events, and the games-football and basketball. The inter house Tug-of-War added that extra energy and excitement to the day’s programme. These events were interspersed with the prize distribution ceremony for the winners and runners-up. The Yellow house won the trophy for the winning house at the Sports Day events closely followed by the Blue house. The NCC and the Scout troupes impressed one and all with their disciplined and stately marching with NCC troupe winning the close contest. The Red house won the march past competition among the four houses. The lowering of the school flag marked the end of the closing ceremony which was followed by the extinguishing of the flames and the singing of the National anthem. The Principal thanked the Sports Committee and all those involved in making the day a successful one.
