It has been a short yet agonizing wait of two years for the Bosco boys to lay their hands on the MSSA u-16 trophy they so cherish. And when Shelton found the back of the net in the penultimate shot of the penalty shoot-out in the finals, the rush of spectators and student supporters on the ground to wish their heroes had to be seen to be believed. Having played near flawless football till the semi-final stage, the boys somehow found themselves behind by a goal in the very first quarter of the finals against Stanislaus, Bandra, played in the afternoon heat at the Cooperage grounds on Thursday, 18th Aug 2016. The supporters comprising parents, past pupils, present pupils, staff and many well-wishers though didn’t lose hope in the boys, and egged them on with their exuberant cheer. The boys didn’t disappoint. In their relentless pursuit for a goal in the second half that was totally dominated by our boys, Mannan Dang struck to equalize, and took the match into the tie-breaker. Shelton, Joshua, Aman and Aryan all scored from the spot to seal a 4-1 victory for the school team.
It was indeed a special and sweet victory for the coach Leslie Machado, who is in his 25th year as football coach at Don Bosco, Matunga. A beautiful gift indeed by the team to their dedicated and tactical coach! Congratulations boys and coaches, especially Sir Leslie! Savour the sweet taste of victory as long as it lasts!
