Think Green…Act Green (Green Line Project)

-Ms. Richa Singh

The Nature Club of the Secondary section had taken the initiative to work on the Ecobricks project to create awareness on clean environment in association with Greenline – an organization on the campus that has many schools under its umbrella to promote a clean, green and safe environment. This year the Greenline team floated the idea of the ‘Ecobricks Project’. The entire school was galvanized into action to contribute towards this Project by way of self-made ecobricks. It was not an easy task to prepare the brick. It required almost four hours of sincere labour for the preparation of one ecobrick. The ecobricks made of plastic bottles would be later used to construct toilets in slums, thus reusing waste which is non degradable.

The students were made aware that they were working towards a good cause and they needed to be generous enough to give their best to this project. Of the two sections, the Primary along with the Kindergarten contributed almost 70% of the total eco brick collection. Don Bosco High School, Matunga was awarded the BOTO award at the Greenline award ceremony held on 3rd March 2018 for the highest collection (1700 eco bricks) among all the schools of Mumbai. The students who contributed maximum number of eco- bricks from every standard of the respective sections were awarded with certificates of acknowledgement and gratitude. The School authorities thanked the parents and teachers for taking this project forward and hoped that many such green initiatives will be encouraged in the future.
