Sport is a preserver of health-Sr Kg Sports Festival
-Ms. Bianca Fernandes

Sport is an integral part of every student’s life. It is indeed a splendid occasion for each one to showcase their speed and agility on the field. The much-awaited Sports Day of the Sr. Kg was held on 7th December 2019 with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere. The theme for the Sports Festival this year was ‘Festival the reason for joy’. Festivals bring joy and happiness in our lives. They are truly the oxygen and the life of our society as they strengthen our connectivity as people of one nation.
The program for the day commenced with the boys of each class welcoming the dignitaries, our Chief Guest Fr. Crispino D’Souza, our Principal Fr. Bernard Fernandes, Primary Head Teacher Mrs. Griselda Fernandes and our very own Pre-Primary Supervisor Mrs. Shoba D’souza. At the grand opening ceremony, our flag bearer marched with ardour and was followed by our mesmerizing mini band. The squad marched in unison as cheers erupted from the audience. In a tradition reminiscent of the Olympic spirit of sportsmanship our Sports Day began with a brilliant torch lighting ceremony, whereby our champion ran the last lap holding the torch high up symbolizing purity, a strive for perfection and life. The boys were ushered into the arena by their class festive themed mascots dressed in different festival symbols.
A spectacular drill by the boys dressed in yellow, red and green coloured jerseys and colourful hands symbolising the festival of Holi was a dazzling display. The field was transformed into an astonishing colourful playground with synchronized body movements swaying to music. The sportsman prayer was recited and thereafter the boys jogged to their places. Our Chief Guest Fr. Crispino gave the parents an insight to the theme and thereafter declared the Sports Festival for the year 2019-20 open. The boys who qualified had their final round of flat race followed by various distinctive festival themed filled races which saw each and every child participating with full vigour and fervour.
The races were as follows:
1.Santa race – The little Santa’s collected 4 toffees and ran to the finish line.
2. Lighting and balancing Diyas -The boys had to light the diyas, balance them on the edge of the ruler and walk to the finish line.
3. Dressing up for Id -The boys dressed up in white jubbahs ran to wear the black jacket and the namaz cap and then sprinted to the finish line.
4. Easter Bunny hop -The tiny bunnies in their bunny caps had to hop to join the Easter eggs and run to the finish line.
5. The treasure hunt – The boys had to hunt for laddoos placed in a bucket full of ping pong balls and then run to finish line.
Dressing like a queen race was specially planned for the parents. It was a sight to see the parents taking part in the race sportingly and enjoying the special moment.
‘Believe you can and you will win.’ At the prize distribution ceremony, the winners from each class were awarded certificates by our Chief Guest Fr. Crispino and our Principal Fr. Bernard. Our boys expressed their gratitude through the Vote of Thanks. The Chief Guest Fr. Crispino declared the Sport Festival for 2019 – 20 closed. It was day filled with fervour and excitement experienced amidst thrills, shrills and cheers. Parents commented on the ebullience of the children on the ground. The Sports day was highly appreciated, enjoyed and cheered by one and all.
