So near yet so far for our brilliant cricket team – Giles Shield

-Mr. Barrington Serrao

Staging a brilliant and massive comeback, that is slowly turning out to be the hallmark of our compact and talented u-14 cricket team, the boys forced a commendable draw in the finals against the strong opponents Rizvi School in the prestigious Giles Shield interschool tournament conducted by MSSA. Playing on the turf of the hallowed Wankhede stadium and blessed with the opportunity to experience the dressing rooms shared by cricket greats as Tendulkar, Gavaskar, Shastri, Viv Richards, Border ….our boys didn’t let the opportunity slip off their hands to show their steel and resolve in facing challenging situations and opponents. Having fought their way back into the game on day one (8th Jan 2018) grabbing three quick wickets in the post lunch session, our boys had their back to the wall on day two, after losing four wickets for a paltry 54 runs and facing a daunting task to overhaul the first innings score of 495-8 declared of the Rizvi team. However, a spirited fight back by our team led by the skipper Sahil Jadhav who scored an unbeaten 150, helped the team score 331-9 at close of play on the third and final day, and thus help draw the match. Our boys however lost to Rizvi on run quotient and had to settle for the runners-up trophy, but not before making a strong statement to the cricket aficionados of their intent and steely resolve. Chris D’Britto shone in the tournament and impressed one and all with his bowling performances in every match.

Kudos to our team and coaches, and thanks to the continuous support by our parents!
