Proud of our Marathi culture
-Mrs. Reshma Belgaonkar

Marathi Divas was celebrated on 27th February 2018 with much gaiety and excitement in the Secondary section of the school. Marathi Divas is an occasion to highlight the Marathi language with a special remembrance of the poet Kusumagraj.

The entrance of the school was beautifully decorated and boys sporting traditional costumes depicting famous and important Marathi personalities and culture welcomed everyone. During the assembly over the intercom, the presentation began with an introduction by Fr. Roy Noronha, our Vice-Principal, and by our Marathi teacher Mrs. Reshma. This was followed by a talk by Mr. Sham Pawar on the importance of the day. Kusumagraj’s poems were read by students and they also sang his songs.

After the assembly, there were presentations viewed in the classroom by students on famed Marathi personalities. The students were encouraged to converse in Marathi the entire day and this lent a traditional and cultural touch to the proceedings of the day. The boys participated by preparing charts and writing poems (Stds 5 and 6), writing phrases, their meaning and sentences (Std 8) and a brief life in about 10 lines on Kusumagraj (Std 9). There was a handwriting competition for Std. 7. Speeches on the importance of the day and Marathi songs played during the breaks on the intercom added variety to the day’s activities.

The Marathi Day celebrations continued through the day that made each of us feel proud to be a part of this beautiful culture.
