Nature Club Workshop “Story of a Bottle”

-Ms. Nadar Ranjitham Selvaraj

The first Outdoor Workshop for the Green Schools Campaign 2017-2018 called the “Story of a Bottle” was organized by the “Green-Line” organization on 10th Aug morning at Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga. The session was conducted by the resource person Krushnaa Patil and Akshat Singhal from (Global Shapers Community). Close to 75 students with their teachers or parents from 50 Schools in Mumbai participated in this significant workshop. Our school was represented by teacher Ms. Ranjitham Selvaraj and Master Kevin Sahaya (8th A) and Master Aldon Dsouza (8th D) at this workshop. The resource persons addressed the plastic and major garbage problems faced by Mumbai city as also the open sanitation issues.

The possible solution which was given by the resource person was to build “Ecobricks”, which would be used to construct public toilets in slums. By using the waste like plastic bags wrappers, plastic bottle, straw, thermocol etc., we were taught to make Ecobrick by the guidelines given by the resource person. Each school made one such Ecobrick. We were also given the guidelines and instructions to initiate this activity in our respective schools by involving students, teaching and non-teaching staff. Creation of many such Ecobricks would help the society in reducing the waste as well as provide a proper sanitation facility in the slums. At the end of the workshop Mansi Shah shared her ideas of infusing seeds in flags for an eco-friendly Independence Day.

Task for the School:

*Create at least 5 quality Ecobricks through each student/ individual.

* Work towards our commitment to the pledge with other school students to make a maximum number of Ecobricks from our school to construct “Ecobricks” public toilets for the slums in Versova.
