Harris Shield – A first for Don Bosco in its Sporting history!
-Mr. Barrington Serrao

Don Bosco High School, Matunga is a sporting giant in the city of Mumbai and the state of Maharashtra. It has all the major trophies of the popular sports under its belt. However, one trophy eluded us viz. the prestigious Harris Shield. Harris Shield is the award for the best school in the MSSA organized u-16 cricket tournament. Since its inception, Don Bosco Matunga never managed to lay hands on this trophy having qualified for the Elite group of 8 on various occasions. The school has however won the Giles Shield (the trophy for u-14 cricket tournament) on a few occasions. Well, the school has now made a start to laying claim to the Harris Shield -in fact, it came close to winning it this year!

Our school u-16 cricket team made history this year by qualifying for the finals of the MSSA organized prestigious Harris Shield tournament for the first time! In the finals, the team was pitted against reigning champions Al Barkaat school. This decisive match was played from 6th-8th Jan 2020 at the renowned Brabourne stadium. It was a big ask for our boys. The talent, the character and the spunk were there for all to see.  The boys returned home with the runners-up trophy but not before giving the Al Barkaat team a run for their money with some accurate bowling and top class fielding. Ours boys lost after surrendering the first innings lead to Al Barkaat.
The skipper Sahil Jadhav who scored a century in the match, received the runners up trophy at the hands of the chief guest Mr Sandeep Patil, ex-India cricketer, at the Brabourne stadium today.
Brief scores:
Don Bosco Matunga-1st innings: 289 (94.2 overs)
Al Barkaat- 1st innings-306/3 (117 overs)
Congratulations boys and coaches. You have won our hearts!
