-Ms Colleen Azavedo and Ms Richa Singh
“Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do, grandparents sort of sparkle stardust over the lives of children” -Alex Haley
Grandchildren are the dots that connect the lines from generation to generations. Grandparents are special to every child. Their knowledge is invaluable and their love unconditional. To make them feel special and loved, the students of Don Bosco Primary School celebrated Grandparent’s Day on 20th July,2019 in the Bianchi Hall from 9a.m. to 2p.m. The venue was spruced up for the special day. The beautiful decoration on the stairways, entrance, stage, backdrop, and invites manifested the hard work and efforts of the Head Teacher, teachers, and parents who worked tirelessly to manifest the love and affection of the grandchildren for their grandparents.
As the grandparents moved towards the venue they were welcomed with the magnificent decoration all along the stairway leading to the hall. The beautiful backdrop in the hall was a replica of the invitation cards that they received. The members of the management our Principal Rev. Fr. Bernard Fernandes, Rector Rev. Fr. Crispino D’Souza, Vice-Principal Sir Cliffrichard D’Souza, HeadTeacher Mrs. Griselda Fernandes and the grandparents were welcomed with a flower each which was specially prepared for them by the students with love.
The comperes for the show were Ms. Richa Singh and Mrs. Colleen Azavedo who began with a short introduction which was followed by a welcome speech by Master Liam Sequeira the captain of the Primary school. The programme began with a welcome song by the tiny tots. Nothing is accomplished without the blessings of the Almighty. The members of the management and a few grandparents were asked to step forward to light the lamp and a prayer was said to invoke God’s blessings. An action song and a dance were staged by the students which were very colourful and lively. Various interesting spot prizes were organized for the grandparents.
The highlight of the celebration was the moment when the grandparents and the grandchildren got on the floor to dance. It was a treat to watch most of the grandparents full of energy which was at its peak. Later a few grandparents voiced their sentiments and expressed their gratitude towards the school on this occasion. Mrs. Sequeira, said, “Grandparents are an important part of each person’s life, and, I am very happy to be here on this occasion.” I truly appreciate the school for giving us this opportunity to come and enjoy this day. Thank you very much for remembering us,” said Mrs. Chintal. She also added there is no school like Don Bosco High School and was happy that her grandchildren are studying in one of the prestigious institutions in Mumbai.
Rev. Fr. Valerian shared his sentiments with the grandparents and thanked them for all that they do for their grand children. The Principal, Fr. Bernard Fernandes and Rector Fr. Crispino D’Souza thanked the grandparents for their valuable time spent for gracing this occasion. The Vice-Captain, Master Shaurya Waghmare then extended a vote of thanks followed by a thank you song by the students of Std. III & IV.
The grandparents were very happy to witness this event. They penned their thoughts and views about the programme, and these were displayed on the board. The grandparents were then escorted for some light refreshments at the end of the programme. They returned home with a smile on their face and joy in their hearts for something wonderful that they experienced during the day.
