Come and See Camp at Lonavala

29 Catholic students of Don Bosco Matunga attended a 2-days vocation camp at Don Bosco Lonavala on 16th-17th November 2019. 119 boys from standard VII to XI from the Don Bosco institutions of the Salesian Mumbai Province were taken by bus for a ‘come and see’ program to the apostolic school at Lonavala. Fr. McEnroe Lopes, SDB of Don Bosco Youth Services was our coordinator.
Attending a two days camp at Lonavala, beyond the hustle and bustle of Mumbai made me curious. I got up early and reached school at 0700 hrs with a backpack stuffed with clothes, snacks needed for next two days. Since it was a camp to experience Jesus and Salesian way of living my mom had kept a ‘Bible’ in my bag. In the school I met my fellow campers from St. Joseph’s School, Wadala and Don Bosco school, Borivali. After the attendance we were briefed by Fr. McEnroe and left for Lonavala into two buses. Snaking through the tunnels and ghats of Mumbai-Pune Express way our bus reached Lonavala at 1030hrs.
In the campus, we were welcomed by the Salesian fathers, brothers and the boys there. After placing the bags in the dormitory assigned for us we moved to the beautiful Chapel and thanked the Lord for the safe travel. We were served a tasty breakfast and were allowed to play games. In the afternoon lunch was served. We were divided into different groups and were instructed at a session in our faith. In the evening we attended a mass and had a sumptuous dinner. We had a feel of the chill weather of Lonavala when we were screened a movie on ‘Noah’. After the movie we retired to bed.
On 17th morning we woke up at 0530 hrs with the alarm whistle of senior supervisors. We got ready in a whiff and attended mass in the chapel. After the divine invocation, the volunteers and students of Don Bosco community performed a stunts’ display on the skate board for us. The Salesian fathers and the brothers spoke to us about service to mankind and call for vocation. We could feel the service and divinity within the atmosphere of Don Bosco house, Lonavala.
With fond memories and joy of making friends across the class and school we left Lonavala at 1400 hrs. We picked goodies like chikki and fudge for our family members at home and returned back with the fond camping memories to share with our family.
