St. Dominic Savio, model of the youth, was a pupil of St. Don Bosco, who worked for the abandoned youth. His feast day is celebrated on the 6th of May. At Don Bosco High School, Matunga, his feast was celebrated on Tuesday, the 5th of July, coinciding with the investiture ceremony of the school.
Amid a slight drizzle and with the sound of beating drums and bugles of the School Band, the dignitaries for the event were welcomed. ‘Be The Change You Want to See in the World’ was the theme for a wonderful assembly put up by class X C.
“It is a myth that old fashioned saints like Dominic Savio cannot inspire our youth and teach them values.” This was the inspiring message that the principal, Fr. Bernard gave, quoting the compere. Also, he challenged the leaders to lead from the front. He was also quoted as saying that everyone is a leader and everyone has to become a leader somewhere in their life.
The Rector too, made an equally rousing speech, applauded by all. After the assembly, the leaders were solemnly vested and oaths were taken.
The school captain, Paarth Kapasi, proposed the vote of thanks in which he re-phrased the famous proverb by saying that ‘A journey of a thousand miles begins from one small step’ as ‘the beginning of this new academic year starts with a big gratitude.’ He also added that the youth of today are the architects of tomorrow and that if the foundation is strong, the structure will last.
The vice captain, Jayanand Jayan, when asked about his leadership style, vowed that there will be no partiality or bias and that he will adhere to the rules and make sure that others, too follow his good example.
