Class VI D assembly was conducted on food wastage on 6th Dec 2016. It was an opportunity to make the children aware that every year, around four billion tonnes of food is produced, and around two billion is wasted in India. Then too India is still struggling to satisfy hunger. At the assembly, the compere got the audience to understand the importance of food – the right food that boosts happiness, increases mental functioning, helps maintain the appropriate body weight and prevents specific illnesses. The assembly also threw light on the reasons behind food wastage, causes of starvation and food scarcity in the society. The last part of the day’s program gave a glimpse of the contribution of our former Prime Minister Lal Bhadur Shastri who managed to fight against food shortage during the war against Pakistan with the motto ‘Jai Jawan Jai Kishan’. If we save food India would be free from the clutches of starvation and malnutrition and there would be less poverty around us.
