The Catechetical and Moral Science Day was organized for Stds 5 and 6 by the teachers teaching them Religion and Morals respectively. The programme for the std 5 boys was held in the morning from 11:30am to 1pm and in the afternoon for the std 6 boys from 2 pm to 3:30 pm. The Religion boys were enlightened by the Rector, Fr. Wilfred D’souza on the importance of the day saying that it’s an opportunity for them to gain deeper knowledge of their faith. He then led the students into prayer.
The first part of the programme witnessed an interactive session taken by Fr. John Cyriac SJ. Fr John Cyriac SJ spoke on “Love of God”. Through various videos, stories and activities the enthusiastic boys of Religion class of Stds 5 and 6 grasped the ideas such as God loves us always; we can go beyond our limits with the power that God gives us.
The next session of the programme was taken by Mrs. Reena and Miss Marossa Fernandes . The Std 5 students viewed a video on the life of St. Dominic Savio who was and is a role model to every young student. The students of Std 6 watched a video on the life of an eagle which was followed by a discussion on its message viz. enrichment of one’s faith. The boys also prepared a chart portraying the message on the importance of helping the underprivileged children thus reflecting the need to thank the Lord for the blessing they as Don Bosco students have received and at the same time realizing their responsibility of giving back to the society. The best four charts were awarded.
In a separate session held for the Moral Science students in the undercroft, the programme began with a prayer by the boys of different religions to show respect and unity. This was followed by meditation. Fr. Rector spoke about different values and highlighted the fact that life and education are very important irrespective of one’s caste, creed or religion. The boys were taken to class thereafter for activity to impart awareness of different values that are important in our day to day life.
The Moral Science boys of Std. V were sensitized to the values and morals they need to uphold in their lives. The session began with a prayer service based on the diverse religions of India. This was done through prayers related to various scriptures. Mrs. Rita Das Ram, the resource person for the day talked about basic values such as respect, politeness and forgiveness, and encouraged the children to inculcate these values in their lives. Fr Rector too addressed the students and spoke on the importance of these values and the need to practice them in our day to day lives. The students later engaged themselves in drawing activity based on various topical themes in their respective classrooms.
At the end of an enriching day all the students – Religion and Moral Science – returned home happy, refreshed and wealthy for the experience.
