We Dared to Dream….

-Ms. Perpetual Nazareth

Don Bosco High School, Matunga celebrated with pride its Annual Thanksgiving Day on 11th and 12th November 2017 to mark its Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in the presence of our beloved Rector Major Rev. Fr. Angel Fernandez Artime who arrived specially from Rome to partake in the celebrations.

The first day was set aside to felicitate the Management and our retired staff Mrs. Smita Kendre and Mr. Hiramani Shukla, and our silver Jubilarian Mrs. Maria D’souza who also retired this year. They were commended for their loyalty, hard work and a spirit of sacrifice.

Music is the life of any Don Bosco institution and the school band here provides an attractive dimension to it. Sir Saby Franco, the conductor and band master with his talented musicians opened up their treasure of music on both the days and won the hearts of all. Besides providing music for accompaniment to the elegant flag bearers that marched along with the Don Bosco Matunga school flag to welcome the dignitaries, the band dished out some sterling performances during the musical. The Rector Major while appreciating the young musicians exclaimed,” The Orchestra performed like professionals. I don’t know what they will do in another four or five years if they play so well now!”

The tiny tots of the Kindergarten greeted everyone in their winsome style through their Prayer song ‘Footsteps Walking with Me.’ The rendition of the Spanish song ‘Mas Alla’ on the second day by the staff members and a student representative surprised the Rector Major and he was all praise for the flawless Spanish.

The second day of our celebrations presented some momentous occasions. We began with the felicitation of the Rector Major Rev Fr. Angel Fernandez, his secretary Rev. Fr. Horacio Lopez, Regional Rev. Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga, Provincial Rev. Fr. Godfrey D’Souza and the other dignitaries with a bouquet of flowers and a bust of Don Bosco specially designed and prepared to commemorate 75 years of the school. In another significant moment of the day, the Rector Major released the Coffee Table Magazine titled ‘75 Magic Strokes to an Evolving Canvas’ which takes one through all the happenings and developments over the last 75 years at Don Bosco High School, Matunga – a memoir for keeps.

Thereafter the stage was set for the production ‘Dare to Dream’ which took one through the journey of one of the most successful child superstar Michael Jackson of the Jackson five. The struggle of him and his family entailed a lot of sacrifices, dedication and tolerance and more, losing out on the smaller things in life.  Every step of Jackson five is full of twists and turns that make the dream even more difficult to sustain. However it was Michael Jackson who dared to dream and become global phenomena earning the title ‘King of Pop.’

The Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandez, in his speech heaped glowing praises on the students, staff and the parents for the well executed programme and the spirit of Don Bosco that prevails in the institution. He thanked the parents for placing their trust in Salesian educators and their way of education. The Rector Major enthralled the audience with some foot tapping popular Spanish and Mexican numbers making it an evening to remember. The Principal Rev. Fr. Bernard Fernandes in his vote of thanks expressed gratitude to the Rector Major for leaving behind fond memories of love and the spirit of Don Bosco.

Thus the curtain finally fell on the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the school with the Annual Thanksgiving Day. We were privileged to live this dream!
